Pittville Park

History of Pittvile park

Opened in 1825, Pittville Park is the largest ornamental park in Cheltenham and features the magnificent pump room and lakes. This park is given a grade 2 listing under the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens, with the pump rooms as a grade 1 historic building.Within the park there are a wide range of sporting and leisure opportunities.
Facilities include angling, golf and a skateboarding area. All these facilities are situated to the west of Evesham Road.
To the east of the road you will find an excitingly designed childrens' play area which has picnic tables adjacent to the play equipment. The children's play area is a dog free zone and completely enclosed for added safety. Children will delight in the added attraction of the aviaries which house a variety of birds and bunnies which are managed in conjunction with the Support Our Birds and Bunnies Committee.
This is a great park where you can enjoy few small lakes and some nice open spaces with Pittville Pumproom located at the top of the Park. (See my review here)

Pittville Pump Room

This is Pittville pump rooms located in Pittville park in the North of Cheltenham, according to Wikipedia

"The Pittville Pump Room was the last and largest of the spa buildings to be built in Cheltenham.
The well from which the Pump Room's waters originate was first exploited by Henry Skillicorne around 1740, about 25 years after the waters were first discovered in 1716. After the visit to Cheltenham in 1788 of King George III, the town became increasingly fashionable. In the 1820s the local landowner Joseph Pitt determined to develop the northern part of the town as 'Pittville', of which the Pump Room and its spa were to form an important element as part of a pleasure garden.

The Pump Room was built by the architect John Forbes between 1825 and 1830. It is a Grade Ilisted building standing at the northern end of Pittville Lawn with landscaped grounds running down to a lake. The building contains the original Pump, made of marble and scagliola, to which the waters are today fed by electric pumping."

The Pumprooms are used for weddings and other events, they are also part of the regency Cheltenham tourist attractions.
